AAUA FEE INCREMENT; Comrade Akeredolu Condemns Outrageous Fee!!!
NAOSS vows to resist the outrageous increment in the tuition fees of Adekunle Ajasin University amongst other education policies in the state.
Naoss presidentThe National President the National Association of Ondo State Students Comrade Emmanuel Akeredolu has said that the union and all other students union bodies will resist the increment in the tuition fees of the state owned tertiary institutions.
Akeredolu who gave the hint in an exclusive chat with Newsmen said the current increment in the tuition Fees of Adekunle Ajasin University is totally unacceptable.
“With the present economic situation, this increment is unacceptable. I stand by my earlier position that education must be affordable for every willing citizen as it is the bedrock of development.”
“The absurdness and percentage of the increase is exorbitant and unaffordable, We will not tolerate any attempt to jeopardize the future of young people in the state by making education expensive at all levels, we as a body have always stood against fee increment and we will continue to stand against it,” he said.
According to Mr. Akeredolu , NAOSS has been engaging the state government since July 2017 on issues rocking the Education sector in the state.
“The truth is there are lots of issues rocking the education system in the state. We have made our position known to the state government; we have also written to the Executive Governor on several occasions to express our displeasure over the recent education policies in the state,” he said.
“ONDO students are dropping out of school daily due to financial difficulties, Students have been deprived from accessing bursary and scholarship for more than four years now, brilliant but indigent students are not encouraged and they go on to increase tuition fees, compounding the issues.
“However, we have been engaging the government but if they don’t invite us to a meeting soonest to dialogue on the pressing demands of students, we will take our position on the issue and necessary actions will follow as we have vowed that ONDO students will never be oppressed under our watch, That is if they don’t heed to our demands which includes prompt payment of bursary and scholarship , adequate funding of the state owned tertiary institutions, Backward review of the tuition fees of tertiary institutions in the state and lots more”.
Asked if NAOSS would initiate a meeting with the state government, he said “We will not initiate any meeting if they don’t call us, we can’t initiate meeting.”
“If we do not speak up, We will continue to have issues like this, a case where Education policies are made without the input or consideration of the students will no longer be tolerated. We are ready to engage stakeholders in this issue,” he said.
Akeredolu however gave assurance to the students and their parents to that prompt actions will be taken on the issue soonest.
“Our solidarity will always remain solid and never gaseous”
